About The Troy All Dogs Playgroup

to the Troy All Dogs Playgroup information page!

We are the 'parents' of two large dogs who love to explore off-leash. Onyx is an older lab-dane mix, and Nava is a young standard poodle. They are very social; so are we. Oakland County has the wonderful Orion Oaks Dog Park, but sometimes that's too far to go for a relaxing walk or a rowdy play session.
So, we formed this group to get other dogs to come and play! We offer monthly dog play dates in our very large, fully fenced back yard. We welcome all breeds, all sizes of friendly, socialized dogs. We will happily share our favorite places to walk the dogs off leash, and usually have an off leash group walk monthly as well as our playdate. And we just keep adding fun stuff- agility practice, pet therapy, Yappy Hour, Ruffin' It (camping with canines) and specialized small dog and/or small number playdates and anything else we can think of!.

Our group is easy to join, the 'by approval' restriction is on so that our address is not posted openly on the internet. Only members have access to the address.

The Troy All Dogs Play Group Meetups are held the second Saturday of every month
AM Playtime: 10:30-12:30 in the mornings
PM Playtime: 2-4pm in the afternoon.
Yes, there are TWO play sessions!
Pet Therapy at Town Village is the 4th Saturday of the month at 10:30am for an hour.
Offleash Walks are usually announced monthly.
Be sure to look at the 'Upcoming Meeting List' found below 'Next Meetup' and 'What members are saying' on the Welcome page for a complete list.

We are a Rain or Shine kind of group. (Look at some our photos if you don't believe it....)
We usually have treats for the humans and the dogs at our gatherings, but you are always welcome to bring more balls or other items to play with, and anything you want to share with the humans!

WHO SHOULD JOIN? Anyone who loves to have fun with dogs! Anyone whose dog needs a romping play session or an opportunity to be adored. We almost guarantee long naps after our play dates.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING? Your dog, a leash for the getting to & from the car & to have on hand. Balls, throwing thingies if your dog likes them. If you're bringing human or dog treats, please mention it in your RSVP. Monetary donations to cover Meetup Organizer fees and treats are graciously accepted, but there is no set fee for our playgroup. There is a donation jar available at the entrance.

WHAT ELSE SHOULD I KNOW? We have a great time! You are welcome to throw balls, sit and pet the dogs, and have conversations with other dog parents. Everyone is responsible for their dog's behavior [and poop scooping]. We recommend no children under age 8 attend the open playdates, unless they stay in the small dog area- not because we don't like children but because we don't think a group of rambunctious running and playing dogs is a safe place for small children to be.

Some members have requested no treats be given to their dogs for various reasons. Those dogs will have special, colorful No Treat Ribbons tied to their collars when they arrive. Please respect the owners' wishes.

We sometimes separate the itty-bitty dogs and shy puppies from the big rowdy dogs, if we see a need. It's not a problem. In fact, we set up a special area just for them! In the cold months, the house is open for the tiny/hairless dogs to play. Also for the humans to warm up if needed!

Standard dog park rules apply: your dogs must be up to date on all shots. This is the honor system; we believe if you care enough about your dog to join one of these groups, you are surely protecting their health. Females dogs in heat should not attend playdates. Puppies under 16 weeks should not be brought to playdates because their immune systems are not mature. Aggressive behavior must be stopped immediately.

Some days, your dog may not feel like playing nicely. If so, and your dog is involved in more than one aggressive encounter, you may want to leave earlier than planned.

In fact, if your dog is the aggressor, and/or the dog who bites another (in an unfriendly manner), please either immediately muzzle your dog or leave the meetup.

I would also like to remind everyone to enter and move away from the gates. Spread out, there’s lots of room! Especially at the beginning of playtime, the more spread out the dogs are, exploring various parts of the yard, the better everyone plays! Moving away from the gate and the house also make it way less intimidating for the next dogs to come in. We have noticed that almost all the dog aggression we have seen at playdates seems to occur in the same general area- the spot where the most people also seem to congregate. We’ll be asking you to shift away from that spot ;) so grab your beverage and cookie and move to the back or sides of the yard please.

Our members have posted to our message board with other playdate & training opportunities that you may join in. Please browse and enjoy.

New Members:

1) Do not include any personal information (ie phone number or e-mail addresses) Our pages are not private, thus, your profile information will be visible to everyone, including programs designed to capture e-mail addresses for spammers.

2) Please list the initial of your last name so we can tell the difference between Jennifers/Toms/Karens. If you wish to change your "name" click on account (on the right upper corner) and you can edit your name at any time. We prefer you use your real name because it makes it easier to get to know you.

3) We kindly REQUEST that you fill out each profile question. After all, if you aren't willing to spend the time and put some thought into completing a 2 minute profile, you are probably a MINO (member in name only; aka "not an active member").

Please re-read Meetup.com's Terms of Service especially section 6.2. You agreed to it in order to use this site. You may not have read it, but you had to check the box that said you did. In general, section 6 says an organizer or a member cannot be held responsible for injury, property damage, etc., etc, to you, your dog, your car, your favorite jeans or the leather item that was mistaken for a chew toy.

One of my goals for this group is furthering public acceptance of dogs as companions. I do not support any Breed Specific legislation and I do accept dogs of ALL breeds in this group. That includes dogs that the media has told you to fear. It also includes some dogs who are working very hard with their owners to overcome unacceptable behaviors. I would no more put your dog in danger than I would put my own dogs in danger, and I ask for your forbearance when you see a dog under its owners control who may exhibit behaviors that we would not normally allow in the group, so that those behaviors can be corrected. I also admit that I am not all knowing and all-seeing; if you see activity in the group that concerns you, please bring it to my attention.

The End of the Day:

At the end of the day, your dog may be covered in dirt and suffer from feelings of euphoria, generally resulting from too much fun. The organizers of this Meetup Group take no responsibility for how dirty or happy your dog gets in the course of the day's activities.
